Sebago Lake, Maine Wedding Photographer : John + Liza

When fall begins to settle in up in Maine, everything gets a little cozier. It’s the cool in the air which has you hugging tighter to your loved ones, the smells of freshly cut firewood to be burned in the home and comfort foods warming in the kitchen, and of course the soft sweaters and blankets you hide beneath to keep warm. But what we have that is unchallenged by pretty much anywhere else in this country, is what it looks like in fall.

The ocean gets that deep blue hue, the mountains start to get topped with snow, and not only does the sun seem to have this peach golden hue but the leaves it illuminates with their brilliant oranges, yellows and reds makes for some of the coolest backdrops for long walks and photographs. Liza + John’s wedding had it all! From the campfire to the freshly fallen trees that were sculpted into benches for the ceremony to the delicious hot food that filled each part of the day – it was perfectly fall!

Oh and the leaves! AHHHH! I was worried that since the wedding was at the tail end of fall that we wouldn’t have those brilliant colors for their Maine wedding, but man-oh-man did we ever have them! And with the flat lake reflecting all of those colors it was even more amazing – just you wait and see!

The intimate wedding was held at a family’s log cabin home with a reception just across the street at another family home and you can tell that the families really pulled together to make this one gorgeous day. Liza + John are close friends of Oscar and I and you may remember them from our coastal New Hampshire engagement session, so while Oscar got to spend the day as a groomsman hanging out with the guys, I got to spend it being up close and personal with each part of the day – LUCKIEST GUESTS EVER :)

They both so badly wanted a low key day that represented who they were and I know that at times the planning process took up a lot of energy, but I could tell from the first moment that I was with Liza as she finished writing her vows alongside her mom, that the stress had melted away and today was going to be awesome. They put so much of their hearts into the day alongside John and his dad who made all of the wood pieces that decorated the day – and it truly was a breathtakingly beautiful day.

There was laughter when Liza and her sister tried to figure out how to lace up the back of her dress (side note: my guess happened to be totally right – boom!), lunch with all of the combined family, and then the couple went to separate rooms to get in their wedding attire and met up again alongside the water to privately read their vows to one another. My brave little Liza really wanted to have them meet down there, even if it meant hiking down a pretty big incline to him. But because she is awesome and chose to wear Vans sneakers with her dress, she had no problem!

And after the ceremony we took pictures down by the lake again and this time, they went out on a canoe! I was so happy when they said they wanted to do that! It was GLORIOUS!

We ate at family style tables with warm cider filling cups to keep hands warm, a dessert of donuts from The Holy Donut (if you haven’t been there before, you MUST go!), and then once the reception was in full swing, Liza was unstoppable on the dance floor with friends and family! It was a great Maine wedding at an incredible location that was topped off with lots of love.

Liza + John, I’m so honored that I was able to photograph your day. I love you both and am so lucky to have you as my friends. Onward and upward!!
