Bar Harbor, Maine Wedding Photographer : Sarah + Nate

Let’s just get this out of the way: I LOVE MAINE!! And Bar Harbor/Acadia? STOP IT! It’s so gorgeous up there, especially this time of year when the businesses are just getting into gear for summer, the park is quiet and serene and the weather is absolutely perfect. I’ve been wanting to go to Acadia for quite a while so when Sarah + Nate contacted me about their wedding in Bar Harbor, I was super pumped to be invited along for their day. I was not only going to head up to Acadia, but I was going to be photographing this super sweet couple’s wedding day! Perfect!

Sarah’s family is deeply rooted in the Bar Harbor area so we heard lots of family stories and history about the surroundings but I think one of my favorites is the importance the game of croquet has to her family.

Sarah’s family has an annual family reunion in the area and a highly competitive game of croquet is one of the traditions they all take part in. It’s a very seriously played game where the winner fights hard to have the bragging rights to. Well when it was finally time for Nate to come along to his first family reunion party with Sarah, he casually played the game with a beer in hand, lackadaisically joking around and enjoying his first ever round of the game…he laughed all the way to first place and her family was NOT at all impressed at his beginners luck. Thankfully they forgave him and have since welcomed him into the family :)

Each piece of the day was perfectly planned with a ceremony at the most beautiful Seacoast Mission right on the water (with the most gratuitous team who couldn’t have been more amazing if they tried!) and then the cutest little schoolhouse right in Hulls Cove where the chalkboard walls were decorated with drawings and well wishes for the couple.

Sarah + Nate have such fun souls who were so very excited to be married to one another and couldn’t have looked better doing it! We enjoyed them, their family + friends – including the best groomsmen ever whose emotions were one of the highlights of the day…even if he did try to pretend his hair was just getting into his eyes/his allergies were acting up. There was so much love in the air and everyone was so welcoming and an utter joy to be around.
